I have tried a few ways. Before someone who hasn't done it tells you to just set that program to use XP's 'Windows 98 compatibility mode' to run, I'll confirm that it will not work. The dongle emmulation software for Casmate will also not allow it to work.
I set up a partition to have W98 running along with XP so I could launch 98 for my casmate work, but it runs all day, so I never launched XP. The partition happened (in my case) to create a much less stable machine, & there was no poin, in my case, to keeping XP, so after much time & money spent to fight that reality, I am now back to keeping one machine on 98 as my own personal temple to the thieving bastards that enabled my software addiction only to leave me stranded in the past. Here we go again! - Bob Burns From: Prescott, Arizona, USA Registered: Nov 1998 IP: Visitor Member # 549 posted October 04, 2003 03:22 PM again i say REMOVABLE HARD DRIVES!!! You want to play with new softwear.this is the way to go. You can buy a 40 gig hard drive now for $50 and 2 removable hard drives will cost you another $40.
Simple to install. They have 2 parts, 1 is the rack, it fits into a 5.25 bay on your computer. The cable and power supply that was hooked to your hard drive now attaches to the rack(make sure wide cable is attached with marked side closest to power connector). The removable carriage is where the hard drive now resides. Most newer computer are automatic on hard drive detection, so nothin else to do but hit the on switch.
Now you can 'play' with XP on one and try loading all kinda stuff, to see if it works, but you still got your everyday working hard drive intact.NO DOWN TIME fixing softwear!!!! - joe pribish-A SIGN MINT 2811 longleaf Dr. Pensacola, fl 32526 850-637-1519 BEWARE THE TRUTH.YOU MAY NOT LIKE WHAT YOU FIND From: pensacola, fl. IT ABSOLUTELY DOES EVERYTHING! Im sure the FLEXI upgrade(which I also have, but never learned) is probably even better, but when something you already know how to use does it ALL, why switch!? The ONLY reason I got the FLEXI upgrade was at the time it was $200 For INSPIRE users, and that seemed to be the way to go, in terms of future upgrades. So I've now opted against going with 'Flexi' and have dumped Windows XP.reinstalled Win98 just cause, I too am hooked on CASmate. Now I've got this hot machine running old technology. Its got a Sony DVD & burner, LCD Monitor with wireless logitech keyboard/mouse and altec lansing speakers, 80GB hard drive 512MB-400MHz RAM 2500 processor.plus I've got a new 24' Summa Cutter sitting in a box doing nothing. My old Summa crapped out, so I had to buy a new one.turns out the old one needed a new motor, so I replaced it.works great.
I keep using the old one cause I like it better. I really feel like I should of just bent over and taken it up the rear end.yes I know what that feels like.got my prostate checked a few months ago.it just fine. Perhaps this is too much information.but I bet a couple of you flinched in your seat just thinking about that check up.
